Gas Explosion destroys Blake Gallery

A gas explosion has ripped through the Blake Gallery at the Shore in Leith.  The explosion happened on the night of the 3rd June just after a private viewing party had concluded.    The entire building went up in flames and considerable structural damage has meant the Council have deem it be demolished for safety.

No one was in the building when the explosion happened.

Blake Gallery has had a short yet troublesome history in Edinburgh.  A former office space was converted by Daniel Blake when he took up residence in Edinburgh only for his vision to fail in its first year.  Despite his great support in the art community he failed to attract the business he required to keep the doors open.

Fast forward a year and the Blake gallery was refurbished by new management and was set for a grand opening only for this latest incident to happen.
