We reported in March about the increase of rodent related issues within the city and since then it has only intensified even with the the City Council Pest control doing its hardest to deal with infestations.
There have been reports from all over the city about highly aggressive rat attacks. Stealing food, biting walkers and generally causing damage to property and street furniture.
The meadows and Leith due to their unique placements in Edinburgh have been highly effected.
Jinder Marbur of the council’s pest control issued a statement from Edinburgh Council
“Edinburgh Council takes all matters of pest control extremely seriously and are working dillegently to lay traps and rodent proof the worst affected areas.
We do ask that the public report all sightings of infestation to our hotline and to ensure all bins and other waste management property is secured and not overflowing.
Rats and other vermin bites may carry disease so anyone who has come into contact with them should seek medical treatment immediately. We ask that you do not approach or attempt to kill any vermin you might see as this can cause further issues.”
