A guide and refresher on Clan Nosferatu
How to use this guide
This guide is to give an overview of standard and general knowledge of the clan. This is by no means a definitive guide nor an enforced how to.
However, these are all things that should be considered for those that are looking to play this clan. Even if your character is a trendsetter seeking to break the clan mold you still need to be aware of the basic structure your character is flouting.
Who are the Nosferatu?
The Nosferatu of modern nights are the lurkers, the unseen, the forgotten listener and the shunned. They are also the dagger in the dark, the masked killer and the secret master. The Children of the Nosferatu are chosen for their abilities and resourcefulness, and occasionally out of twisted spite.
What makes a Nosferatu?
The members of Clan Nosferatu are twisted in form. They are generally found living in sewers or other inhospitable areas and have only rats and (sometimes) other Nosferatu for company. They are the best information gatherers in any city, and have the best intelligence network in any society. Nosferatu are also noticed for their pungent smell, often caused by their chosen unsanitary habitats. As a clan known for their secrets, many nosferatu are paranoid, leading to elaborate traps around their havens as well as a general distrust of everyone. They guard their secrets fiercely and do not take well to information being taken from them. At least not without a price…
The Disciplines of Clan Nosferatu are Obfuscate, Animalism and Potence
The Clan Flaw
All members of Clan Nosferatu suffer from supernatural ugliness. They are walking breaches of the masquerade and as such must constantly be disguised or use some other means to go unseen. This should be roleplayed with either masks, prosthetics or appropriate disguises or disguise skill.
They will cause Fear (see page 61 of the rulebook for more about fear, and how it should be roleplayed) in any Mortal’s eyes just by their appearance alone.
Internal Clan Structure
With a clan as paranoid as the nosferatu, they tend to be fairly close knit. Respect within the nosferatu is based on your knowledge base. The more you have, or the more you make people believe you have, the more fellow nosferatu will listen to you and respect you.
Part of this secret sharing takes the form of the clan specific background: Nosferatu Whispers. This background represents how well connected you are to the information-sharing network that the Nosferatu keep. Higher levels mean you can potentially get more information out of the network, and the more you feed into the network, the more you could potentially get out of the network… but if you feed nothing back into the network, it may well stop giving you as much back out as it used to.
What they think of others?
They generally mistrust all the other Clans, but often respect the Gangrel because of their loneliness. Clans Brujah and Ventrue often make use of the secrets network so earn the respect of being valid customers.
Clan Malkavian are viewed with suspicion, as they often have secrets that not even the nosferatu can gleen. Toreador are despised, and the feeling is often mutual. The Toreador represent everything that is denied the nosferatu.
Like most other clans, they have a healthy distrust of the secretive Tremere Clan, but at the same time, a healthy respect for a clan that can throw lightning and fireballs around. Not to mention, they hold secrets not even the nosferatu can get.
Despite their close knit and paranoid structure, nosferatu will lean more towards sect over clan. They are often the first that are killed in the sect wars, which makes a wise precaution to ally with your chosen side for protection
Clan specific Merits and Flaws
Foul Blood: [3pts] Your blood is so repulsive that anyone with less than 4 willpower who attempts to taste or ingest your blood will immediately vomit it back up. Even characters suffering from a Frenzy will not go near you.
Sleep Unseen: [2pts] You may sleep while in Obfuscate, if you have Obfuscate 1-3 you still require to be hidden behind an object for the Obfuscate to hold, but if you have Obfuscate 4+ you may sleep anywhere and remain invisible. Costs 1 blood to activate, regardless of your Obfuscate level.
Inoffensive to Animals: [0-1pt] Animals no longer react aggressive or fearfully towards you – perceiving you as a predator, and instead treat you as they would any other regular human. This merit is free for anyone with Animalism, or 1pt otherwise.
Stench: [2pts] Nosferatu only, you stink to high heaven and everyone notices it. You can be tracked by anyone with Perception 4 or higher, you suffer a -1 to your Hide ESR, and although it will not break your Obfuscate people will still smell your stench and may be able to conclude that you are nearby as a result of it.
The following merits and flaws cannot be taken by a Nosferatu: Permanent fangs

With their stereotype as outcasts, Nosferatu often have some form of connection to societies down-and-outs
With their sewer dweller stereotype, Nosferatu often know about and how to care for animals.
The digital age has meant that many nosferatu have adapted to make use of this new resource.
A Final Note
This guide is meant to describe the typical Nosferatu. As stated at the start, that does not prevent you from playing a member of this clan with a different base concept, but you will need to have a good reason in your history why your sire chose you to join the clan.
In addition, if you heavily deviate from a typical clan member be prepared to face ridicule or mockery from the rest of the clan.
